Dr. Elias-Lambert began development of the Bystander to Upstander: Transforming Culture (B2U) program in 2016. Most campus-based bystander intervention programs target students, which are a critical population to target. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s social-ecological model of prevention, for bystander intervention to truly be effective, it must address the entire campus community, which includes faculty and staff. So, utilizing her practice and program development experience, Dr. Elias-Lambert developed an evidence-informed upstander intervention program targeting faculty and staff. Utilizing a train-the-trainer model, she began working with TCU’s Center for Teaching Excellence and Academic Deans to implement the program with faculty at TCU. Now, the B2U program has expanded its reach beyond university settings into other workplaces.
